man dies after kite string slits his neck; police officer suspended
GORAKHPUR, Oct. 11 -- A 35-year-old man died after a sharp Chinese kite string slit his neck while he was riding his scooter in Gorakhpur on Saturday morning. The incident has raised fresh concerns over the continued sale and use of the banned and hazardous kite string, despite repeated enforcement drives.
The deceased, Ramesh Kannaujia, was a resident of an area under Tiwari police station limits. He was on his way to open his cosmetics shop when the incident occurred at around 9.30am. The string reportedly became entangled around his neck, causing a severe injury that proved fatal.
Local residents rushed Ramesh to the district hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
According to his father, Fakiry, Ramesh was the sole earning member of the family. SP city Nimish Dashrath Patil said an FIR had been registered in connection with the incident. He also said that police outpost in-charge Alok Singh had been suspended over alleged negligence and failure to curb the sale of banned Chinese manjha. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier warned that deaths caused by the hazardous string would be treated as murder.htc...
