LUCKNOW, April 5 -- A 50-year-old man working as a clerk at a public sector bank died after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his licensed gun at his home in the Jankipuram area of Lucknow on Saturday, police said. "The deceased, identified as Prakash Mishra, was at his residence in Pink City, Mirzapur, when the incident took place," the Lucknow police said in a statement. According to police, the firearm suddenly discharged while being cleaned, inflicting a severe injury that turned fatal. "After receiving information through Dial 112, a police team arrived at the scene and began an investigation. The station house officer also visited the spot and oversaw the proceedings," the statement added. Police said the area has been secured, and a forensic team has been called in to gather evidence. Statements from local residents are being recorded to determine the exact sequence of events. The body has been sent for post-mortem after completion of legal formalities. Further investigation is underway. His father-in-law, Ishwarchandra Mishra, said that Prakash was working as a clerk with a bank and was posted at the sector-Q branch in Aliganj.
