VARANASI, July 12 -- An individual accused of trafficking and marrying off a 16-year-old minor girl from Sonbhadra was arrested in Aligarh on Saturday. A joint team comprising officers from the Robertsganj police station and the Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) unit of Sonbhadra district, led by inspector Ramdarash Ram, arrested the accused, Amit Kumar, a resident of Pakki Sarai in Aligarh district. A case was recently registered at the Robertsganj police station based on a complaint. The charges include Sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 143(4) (trafficking), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additionally, charges were filed under Sections 16/17, 5L/6, and 5J(II)/6 of the POCSO Act, as well as Section 3(2)(5) of the SC/ST Act. Following continuous raids, analysis of technical evidence, and an informant's tip, the team held the accused on Friday near the BSNL gate at the Sonbhadra Railway Station. Circle officer Randhir Mishra stated that the investigation revealed Amit Kumar's active role in the crime.
