VARANASI, May 11 -- Sarnath police on Sunday arrested a man accused of snatching a woman's chain in the Sarnath area on May 3. Police also recovered a 10-gram yellow metal chain and a motorcycle from his possession. The accused was identified as Bablu Jaiswal, a resident of Bhathana under the Shivpur area of Varanasi. Assistant commissioner of police (Sarnath) Vidush Saxena said a woman filed a complaint on May 4 stating that she was returning home on May 3 when an unidentified man on a motorcycle snatched the chain from her neck and fled. Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sarnath police station. The investigation was carried out by sub-inspector Shivnarayan. During the investigation, police found the involvement of Bablu Jaiswal in the incident. He was later arrested near Hridaypur Ring Road in Sarnath. Police recovered the stolen yellow metal chain, weighing around 10 grams, along with the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime. During questioning, the accused told police that he had hidden the motorcycle's number plate with mud before committing the crime near Hiramanpur railway crossing on May 3.
