PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 26 -- : A 30-year-old man accused of molesting a girl was allegedly beaten with sticks by members of her family in Kaushambi's Ujihini Khalsa village on Thursday. He later died during treatment, police said on Friday. The deceased was identified as Ravindra Kumar Raidas, a daily-wage labourer and resident of Ujihini Khalsa under the Sandipan Ghat police station area. According to police, Ravindra had allegedly molested a girl from the village on Wednesday night. This led to an altercation between the two families. Villagers intervened and the matter was apparently settled at the time. On Thursday, Ravindra had gone towards the fields when members of the girl's family allegedly surrounded him and assaulted him with rods and sticks. After being informed, his family members took him to the Muratganj primary health centre. He was then referred to the district medical college hospital. However, he could not be saved and died later. Police sent the body for a post-mortem examination. On the complaint of Ravindra's brother, an FIR was registered against five members of the girl's family, including her grandfather, mother and cousins. Police detained two accused, while efforts were underway to trace the others late on Thursday night, police said. "Members of the girl's family beat the man accused of molestation, following which he died. An FIR has been registered on the complaint of the deceased's brother and two accused have been detained.
