Haridwar, Aug. 19 -- A major fire broke out at Ajmeri market in Piran Kaliyar during the annual Urs fair of Sabir Pak late on Monday night, police said. No casualties or injuries were reported. Officers said the fire broke out around midnight at a jewellery shop and subsequently spread to an adjacent toy shop and another jewellery shop. The fire brigade control room was alerted, after which firefighters with three fire tenders deployed at the Mela Fire Cell reached the market within around 20 minutes. Officials in the know said that an additional fire tender was brought in from Manglaur to help douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby shops. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, added officials.
