His brother was also arrested during the operation, said police on Thursday. Superintendent of police Deepak Bhuker said the injured accused was identified as Chandesh Verma, who sustained a bullet injury to his left leg during the encounter, while his brother, Jeet Verma, was also arrested. Following the murder, his brother, Anil Singh, lodged an FIR against two brothers Chandesh alias Pintu Verma and Jeet Verma, their cousin Arun Verma, Tej Bahadur Verma, and three unidentified persons. Police had earlier arrested one of the named accused, Arun Verma, and sent him to jail. Anticipating unrest, the district administration deployed heavy police force in the village. Personnel of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) were stationed outside the accused's houses, while additional police teams from the neighbouring Baghrai police station were also deployed. Meanwhile, Kunda sub-divisional magistrate, Vachaspati Singh assured the victim's wife, Khushboo, and mother, Urmila, that a proposal would be prepared to allot one bigha of agricultural land to the family.
