Mahoba: Prisoner bites fellow inmate's cheek during clash over cold water
KANPUR, Jan. 4 -- As the cold wave tightened its grip, a splash of icy water triggered a violent scuffle between two prisoners inside the district sub-jail in Mahoba on Saturday, leaving an inmate, booked under the Gangster Act, with a serious facial injury.
The incident occurred around 10 am when inmates were lining up to bathe. In the freezing conditions, one prisoner Hari Om Tiwari lodged in connection with a murder case, allegedly poured cold water on another inmate Kamlesh Singh, who has been in jail since 2021 under the Gangster Act. An argument followed and quickly escalated into a physical clash.
During the scuffle, Kamlesh was allegedly bitten on the cheek. The sight of blood caused panic inside the barrack, prompting jail staff to intervene and separate the two inmates. Kamlesh was rushed to the district hospital and admitted to the emergency ward.
Dr Naveen Chauhan of the district hospital said the inmate had suffered a deep bite wound on the cheek and required eight stitches. "His condition is stable. After treatment, he was sent back to jail," he said. Jailor PK Mishra confirmed the incident, saying the dispute arose after water was splashed during bathing.
