LUCKNOW, Aug. 25 -- Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana on Monday said the legislature is one of the most important institutions of democracy and maintaining its dignity is the collective responsibility of all public representatives. "Continuous efforts are being made to reverse the decline in the dignity of the legislature over the past several decades. With changing times, legislators must develop an understanding of technology, as the public life of public representatives is now connected with digital media," Mahana said while addressing the third workshop on "Cyber Security: A Digital Security Briefing for Legislators", organised for members of the Legislative Assembly. Mahana said social media is an effective medium of public communication, but restraint and caution are essential while using it. It is not appropriate to assume that all information on social media is accurate, he said. He urged legislators to immediately block any negative, objectionable or unnecessary posts they come across instead of reacting to them.
