JAMMU, July 21 -- A magisterial probe has been ordered into the killing of a 35-year-old man allegedly in a police firing incident in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, officials said on Monday. On July 16, Arif Hussain, a resident of Cheeka village, was killed and two special operations group (SOG) personnel were injured in firing after he allegedly tried to snatch a service rifle from them on the Jai-Gandoh road in Doda around 11.30 pm. Doda deputy district commissioner Krishan Lal ordered the probe, and marked it to subdivisional magistrate of Assar, Ashok Singh Katoch. "The deputy magistrate has ordered a magisterial probe and marked it to me. I received the order this morning. I have been given 15 days to complete the probe and submit the report," said Katoch. A five-member special investigation team headed by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Bhaderwah, Naveed Shaukat Qazi, was also constituted to probe the incident, officials said. The incident triggered protests in Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar districts for two days, prompting authorities to suspend mobile internet services. Police officers had claimed Hussain was member of a group of bovine smugglers. "Arif along with other bovine smugglers were intercepted by SOG jawans, who laid an ambush. However, Arif attacked the personnel and tried to snatch a service rifle. Accidental fire from the rifle hit Arif and caused his death," claimed a police officer. Arif's father, Mohd Iqbal, a special police officer, was killed by terrorists in his house during peak militancy in March 1999. Arif's sister, Humaira Bano, alleged police were trying to project her brother as a bovine smuggler. The family demanded an FIR under murder charges....
