VARANASI, Aug. 11 -- A fully indigenous and affordable dental implant system-Customised Malaviya Dental Implant-has been developed by a team of researchers led by Prof Rajesh Bansal, department of prosthodontics, faculty of dental sciences, IMS-BHU, marking a major milestone in India's journey towards self-reliance in medical technology. This cutting-edge implant, ideated in 2003 and made clinically available by 2015 after rigorous testing, is the result of a unique interdisciplinary collaboration. Prof Bansal worked alongside engineering experts Prof Vakil Singh, Prof SK Sinha, and Prof Kaushik Chattopadhyay from the departments of metallurgy and mechanical engineering at IIT-BHU.
