Lucknow, Aug. 19 -- The 86th conference of the All India Presiding Officers will be held in Lucknow on January 20 and 21 next year, Uttar Pradesh assembly speaker Satish Mahana said at a press conference here on Monday. Speakers of legislative assemblies across the country will participate in this conference. Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla has given consent for the event in which the Rajya Sabha deputy chairman will also participate, Mahana said. "A glimpse of the progress and development of Uttar Pradesh will be presented before the country at the conference. Uttar Pradesh is leading the legislative assemblies of the country and the Lok Sabha speaker has given the opportunity to Uttar Pradesh out of turn," he said.A detailed programme of the conference will be decided after a Lok Sabha team's arrival in Lucknow, he said. The conference will be held under the patronage of the Lok Sabha. A tour of the delegates to holy places like Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura and Kushinagar will also be organised, he said. Mahana said the previous conference was held in Patna and the one before that in Mumbai. A theme is decided for all the conferences and all the assemblies present their views. An important resolution was passed in the (previous) conference and this time the responsibility of its implementation has been given to Uttar Pradesh, he said.The responsibility of training the MLAs of various assemblies has also been entrusted to him by the Lok Sabha speaker, Mahana said. Mentioning the UP assembly's Monsoon session that concluded on August 14, Mahana said it featured a continuous discussion on two consecutive days on the topic "Developed India- Developed Uttar Pradesh.' The discussion strengthened democratic traditions and will prove helpful in setting a positive direction for the future, he said.A total 193 members participated in the discussion. They included 105 MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Apna Dal 7, Rashtriya Lok Dal 2, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party 2, Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal 4, Unaffiliated MLAs 3, Samajwadi Party 65, Congress 2, Bahujan Samaj Party 1 and Jansatta Dal 2. Thirty-one ministers also participated in the discussion.The assembly proceedings continued for 32 hours and 28 minutes, he said, adding that the House was adjourned for only 43 minutes.
