LUCKNOW, May 18 -- At least three men were arrested for allegedly running an online betting racket linked to Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Lucknow, with police recovering Rs 1.28 lakh in cash, mobile phones and a laptop from their possession, officials said on Sunday. The Naka Hindola police team, along with the west zone surveillance unit, carried out the operation late Saturday night after receiving a tip-off about alleged online betting activities being run from the Dugawan area under the Naka Hindola police station limits. Police said the accused were caught near Birhana Park at around 9.15 pm. "The arrested accused have been identified as Saurabh Kumar, 36, a resident of Hussainganj; Prem Shankar, 36, a resident of Hussainganj; and Rishu Sonkar, 47, a resident of Naka Hindola," a Lucknow police press note said. According to police, the accused were allegedly placing online bets on IPL matches. During the raid, police recovered Rs 1.28 lakh in cash, one laptop, six smartphones, two feature phones and a diary allegedly containing betting-related details.
