LUCKNOW, Feb. 11 -- Admissions to aided colleges and state colleges must be integrated with the Lucknow University's admission process. Prof JP Saini, vice-chancellor, LU, put forward the proposal during a meeting with principals of aided and government colleges of the university on Tuesday. "Due to limited seats on the university campus, a large number of students are unable to secure admission. Such students will be given opportunities in aided colleges. Under this arrangement, the university will not charge any additional fees, and the colleges will conduct the admission process on their own," said Saini. He has given the principals 10 days to consider this process. He also announced that college departments will be recognised as research centres which will provide the departments with full support from the university and give research a new direction and a committee formed by the university will oversee the establishment of research centres. The meeting also discussed the declining student numbers in many colleges. Girls' colleges in particular are experiencing a decline in the number of women students. It was suggested that such colleges be converted to co-education to provide more opportunities to women students. The vice-chancellor said that teachers should not consider themselves authorities, but rather serve as motivators and guides for students. Saini said that it is essential to increase the gross enrollment ratio in colleges. "Aided and government colleges will have a special responsibility for this, and colleges will need to make concerted efforts."...
