LU hostel inmates protest over expired paneer
LUCKNOW, Oct. 5 -- More than 30 inmates of Lucknow University's Kautilya Hall on the new campus staged a protest on Sunday night after allegedly finding expired paneer used in preparing dinner. This adds to a series of complaints by students of hostels on the university's old and new campuses over poor food quality.
The protesting students locked both gates of the boys' hostel in Jankipuram Extension, disrupting the administration's functioning.
For the past two to three weeks, inmates of various university hostels have been protesting over the alleged use of poor-quality food ingredients, including expired spices and paneer, in meals.
Dean of students' welfare (DSW) Amita Kanaujia confirmed the incident, saying, "Yes, it was very unfortunate that the mess owner used expired paneer. We regret the inconvenience caused to our inmates. Vice-chancellor Prof JP Saini is aware of this development and has instructed officials not to pay the mess owner for Sunday's dinner."
On Friday, inmates of Habibullah Hostel on the old campus staged a sit-in near Gate No. 3, alleging that insects were found in raw vegetables.
The students warned of a sit-in at the vice-chancellor's office if their demands were not addressed within 25 hours. htc...
