LUCKNOW, Oct. 2 -- Lieutenant General Sanjay Mitra, an infantry officer with more than three decades of service and extensive operational experience in Jammu and Kashmir and eastern Ladakh, took charge as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army's Surya Command (Central Command) in Lucknow on Thursday. Lt Gen Mitra assumed office on Thursday (October 1) and paid homage to fallen soldiers at the Smritika War Memorial before reviewing the Guard of Honour at a ceremonial parade. After taking charge, the Army Commander reiterated his focus on maintaining high operational readiness, improving strategic responsiveness and strengthening multi-domain capabilities across the theatre. He also extended greetings to serving personnel, Veer Naris, veterans, defence civilian employees and their families, and stressed their welfare, morale and professional growth.
