LPG cylinder supply strategy drawn up ahead of Bada Mangal
LUCKNOW, April 28 -- With thousands of bhandaras set to operate across Lucknow every Tuesday from May 5, district authorities have begun "Testing Tuesdays" to brace for a steep spike in commercial LPG demand during Bada Mangal.
The initiative aims to simulate peak demand conditions and streamline supply coordination with oil companies, as the city gears up for large-scale community feasts held every Tuesday. Officials said the exercise will help ensure uninterrupted LPG distribution during high-demand days. Authorities noted that demand is already elevated due to the ongoing wedding season, with 500 to 600 commercial LPG cylinders supplied on peak days and nearly 5,000 cylinders allocated so far for catering. However, Bada Mangal is expected to pose a bigger challenge with thousands of simultaneous food distribution points.
District magistrate Vishak G said directions have been issued to the food and Civil Supplies department to ensure that traditional bhandaras continue without disruption and there is no fuel shortage.
District supply officer (DSO) Vijay Pratap Singh said around 2,000 additional commercial cylinders are being kept ready for the festivities. "Cylinders will be provided to bhandaras registered with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) or police. Organisers will need to inform authorities and submit applications at the supply office after May 1," he said.
Sanjay Bhandari, executive director of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and state head, said there is no shortage of LPG cylinders at present. "We are supplying over 8 lakh cylinders daily to consumers, with 70% of supply ensured for commercial users. For Bada Mangal, cylinders will be provided as per demand."...
