Meerut, Sept. 6 -- Police have issued lookout notices against three accused in the Saharanpur counterfeit currency case involving fake notes with a face value of Rs.17.29 crore, amid fears that they could flee to Nepal, officials said. The accused have been identified as PNB senior divisional manager Ravi Kumar Kanse, Sofia Market currency chest manager Sushil Kumar and Jagadhri currency chest Manager Amit Kumar. The development comes as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Crime Branch intensify their probe into the discovery of counterfeit currency at the Punjab National Bank (PNB) currency chest in Sofia Market near Ghantaghar. The SIT and Crime Branch have conducted searches at the residences of the three accused and seized electronic devices and important documents, officials said. The material is being examined for evidence. Saharanpur SSP Abhinandan said the SIT had recovered important evidence during searches at the residences of the three officials. He confirmed that lookout notices had been issued against all three accused. An FIR was registered on August 29 after counterfeit notes were detected in currency that had been sent from Saharanpur to the Reserve Bank of India in Jaipur through the State Bank of India currency chest in Saharanpur. According to details emerging from the investigation, Rs.111 crore in currency was sent from Saharanpur to the RBI's Jaipur office on July 6, 2026. The consignment included 1,900 bundles of Rs.500 notes and 800 bundles of Rs.200 notes. The packing and dispatch of the currency had reportedly been entrusted to a part-time housekeeper.
