Local corporator held for stalking, harassing woman
VARANASI, Aug. 9 -- A local corporator has been arrested for allegedly stalking and harassing a woman from Kabir Chaura in Chetganj here on Saturday, police said.
According to police, the woman, a resident of the Chetganj area and said to be in her 30's, had lodged a complaint on Friday evening against Bhaiya Lal Yadav, 56, a resident of Nakkas, Bhutbhairav, under Kotwali police station, alleging that he had harboured malicious intent towards her and had been stalking and harassing her.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Chetganj police station under Section 78(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with stalking. Sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar Singh was tasked with conducting the investigation. On Saturday, Singh, accompanied by head constable Gopal Singh and constable Puneet Kumar, went to the Chetganj area where the complainant and Yadav were present, officials said.
According to the police, Yadav became aggressive over the registration of the case. Despite repeated attempts to pacify him, he remained uncooperative. In view of the situation and to maintain public order, police arrested Yadav under Section 170 of the BNSS and brought him to the police station.
