LUCKNOW, May 24 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Lalit Kishore Tiwari as corporator of Faizullaganj-III Ward No. 73 on Sunday after legal proceedings and court directions cleared the way for his formal induction. On May 21, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court expressed strong displeasure over the Lucknow mayor's failure to administer the oath of office and secrecy to Tiwari even five months after the election tribunal declared him elected as the corporator. The court seized the mayor's administrative and financial powers until oath was administered to the corporator. According to an official communication issued by the civic body, Tiwari has been asked to attend the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 9am on May 24 at the municipal corporation headquarters in Lalbagh. The oath will be administered under Section 85 of the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1959. The development follows compliance with the order issued on December 19, 2025 by the additional district and sessions judge, Lucknow, in an election petition. The municipal corporation also cited orders passed by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on May 13 and May 21, 2026. Officials said the civic body on Saturday issued the communication following instructions from the mayor. The oath-taking process will formally complete the legal and administrative procedure required before Tiwari begins functioning as the elected representative of the Faizullaganj-III ward in the municipal corporation. In a related development, Prashant Singh 'Atal', senior advocate of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court, on Saturday advised the LMC to comply with high court orders by administering oath to the corporator, who has been declared duly elected by the competent election tribunal/additional district judge, Lucknow. This legal opinion comes after LMC's formal letter to Singh seeking guidance on the high court's order to the Lucknow mayor on the writ Lalit Tiwari vs State of U.P. And Others....
