LUCKNOW, Oct. 7 -- As the Gomti flood continues to affect several low-lying areas of Lucknow, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has stepped up efforts to tackle the health and sanitation challenges that could emerge after the water recedes. Alongside rescue and relief operations, the civic body has started intensive anti-larval, fogging and sanitation measures in the affected areas. The LMC has already used drones to spray MLO and anti-larval chemicals across 138 acres in Zones 3 and 6. Zone 3 accounts for 76 acres and Zone 6 for 62 acres. Officials said drones are helping reach waterlogged stretches where conventional machines and sanitation workers cannot easily operate. The civic body has deployed six manual machines and six large fogging machines for anti-larval treatment and fogging. Two large machines, fitted with 500-litre tanks, are being used to spray anti-larval chemicals and MLO. Around 200 sanitation workers are working from Yadav Chauraha to Mama Colony. Teams are cleaning affected stretches and spraying bleaching powder to reduce the risk of infections. Additional municipal commissioner Arun Kumar Gupta said the civic body was preparing area-wise teams for the post-flood phase. These teams will clear sludge, garbage and accumulated waste and carry out sanitisation and disease-prevention measures as soon as the water recedes. The LMC has set up 12 temporary night shelters-10 in Daudnagar and one each in Loharamau and Millat Nagar. Three permanent shelters at Paltan Chhawni, Umrao Hata and behind Engineering College, each with 100-bed capacity, are also available. Officials said around 250 families had been evacuated from affected areas in Zone 6, while nearly 300 people were staying in shelters. The civic body has deployed around 14-15 water tankers in Daudnagar, Loharamau and Millat Nagar and distributed nearly 80,000 litres of packaged drinking water. It has also installed 13 mobile toilets and around 65 additional streetlights in Daudnagar....
