LUCKNOW, May 24 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has sought registration of FIRs against 615 employees from different departments for allegedly skipping Census duties despite receiving training and official kits. The move comes as the civic body attempts to prevent delays in the houselisting and housing enumeration exercise- a time-bound process considered crucial for planning and governance. Officials said the employees had been assigned duties as enumerators and supervisors and had already undergone training besides receiving necessary stationery and census materials. However, many reportedly failed to report for duty or even collect assigned materials. According to LMC officials, the said employees belong to various departments, including basic education, public works, irrigation, child development and nutrition. Records showed the highest number of absent employees in Zone-3 where authorities identified 244 employees and sent a complaint to Aliganj police station seeking action. Zone-6 reported 165 absentees and so a complaint was submitted to Thakurganj police station. In Zone-1, officials recommended action against 69 employees who skipped Census duty. Authorities forwarded their details to Hazratganj police station for action. Meanwhile, officials in Zone-7 reported that 62 employees did not even collect stationery and appointment materials. Several mobile numbers of employees were found switched off or incorrect. Authorities have sent their details to Ghazipur police station for further action. In Zone-8, the administration sent a list of 75 employees to Ashiana police station for action. Officials said despite repeated reminders, these employees did not collect their appointment letters and stationery required for Census duty. LMC officials said the employees assigned the Census duties are treated as public servants under the Census Act, 1948, and are legally bound to perform assigned work. The civic body has also directed departments to ensure immediate participation of absent employees and warned that continued absence may lead to stricter administrative action. Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases: houselisting and housing census from May 22 to June 20 and population enumeration in February 2027....
