LMC proposes Rs.184-cr hike for public works in revised budget
LUCKNOW, Oct. 1 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has proposed an additional Rs 184.20 crore for public construction works in its revised 2026-27 budget, with higher allocations for road repairs, drainage, parks, schools and infrastructure in industrial and peripheral areas.
LMC's annual budget for financial year 2026-27, passed on March 22, 2026, stood at Rs 4,692.71 crore, with income and expenditure balanced at the same level. The revised budget has now increased to Rs 5,319.29 crore, as per the revised budget proposal accessed by HT.
The revised budget, which puts roads, drainage and neighbourhood-level development among the key spending areas, will be placed before the LMC executive committee on October 1 for consideration.
According to the revised estimates, the allocation for public construction works has increased to Rs 1,319 crore from Rs 1,134.80 crore in the original budget, a rise of Rs 184.20 crore.
Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said the higher allocation aims to address civic issues. He added that after consideration by the executive committee, the budget would be tabled before the competent authority.
The allocation for road repair and renovation has increased from Rs 271 crore to Rs 326 crore, a rise of Rs 55 crore.
The provision for new road construction has also been raised from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2 crore.
The corporation has proposed Rs 20 crore for road-cutting works, compared with Rs 15 crore in the original budget.
The provision covers works related to road cutting for civic utilities and associated restoration.
The allocation for construction, repair and covering of public drains, culverts, crossings and related structures has been increased from Rs 30 crore to Rs 50 crore.
The provision for repair and construction works and other liabilities has been increased from Rs 405 crore to Rs 425 crore.
The allocation for development works through development funds remains at Rs 180 crore in the revised estimate against the same amount in the original budget.
The provision for development in industrial areas, urban fringe areas and undeveloped or expanded areas has been increased from Rs 5 crore to Rs 15 crore.
The revised budget proposes an increase in the provision for construction and repair of park boundaries and pathways, painting and construction of compost pits from Rs 6 crore to Rs 15 crore.
The allocation for parks and their maintenance has also been raised from Rs 42 crore to Rs 47 crore.
The provision for construction and repair of municipal schools has been increased from Rs 10 crore to Rs 16 crore.
