LUCKNOW, Aug. 4 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Monday launched an anti-encroachment drive across key stretches of Gomti Nagar area of the state capital, hours after Hindustan Times highlighted how encroachments and neglect had rendered Lucknow's cycle tracks unusable. It removed illegal occupations from footpaths and cycle lanes and signaled a wider enforcement campaign. HT's ground report documented broken stretches, illegal parking, overgrown vegetation and encroachments that had forced cyclists to abandon dedicated tracks and ride amid fast-moving traffic. The report found several obstructed stretches in Gomti Nagar and Gomti Nagar Extension, including the lane near Ambedkar Park towards Vipul Khand, where damaged surfaces and overgrown trees blocked movement. LMC conducted the drive under Zone-4, covering the stretches from Mithai Wala Chauraha to PNB Bank, and Manoj Pandey Crossing towards Patrakarpuram Crossing. Assistant municipal commissioner and Zone-4 officer Shilpa Kumari led the operation. The team also imposed penalties of Rs 24,500. Shilpa Kumari said the anti-encroachment campaign would continue on Tuesday, with the civic body targeting all illegal occupations on footpaths and cycle tracks in the zone.
