LMC, LDA move to digitally track, rectify potholes, civic hazards
LUCKNOW, March 2 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) and the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) have decided to digitally map pothole-ridden roads, defunct streetlights and uncovered drains across the city aiming to fix problems even before residents lodge complaints. The move comes amid persistent public grievances over damaged roads, dark stretches and open nullahs that continue to endanger commuters and pedestrians.
The authority is planning to conduct a detailed ground survey in areas under its jurisdiction. Teams will inspect roads, identify pothole-hit stretches and document structural deficiencies. Officials will upload the collected data directly into the LDA's monitoring system, allowing engineers to access real-time information and prioritise repairs.
In a parallel initiative, the LMC is also preparing a proposal to conduct a drone-based survey of roads and civic infrastructure it maintains. Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said the proposal is under consideration and the civic body will begin the exercise after finalising the agency and logistics.
The drone survey will assess pothole-ridden roads, dysfunctional streetlights, uncovered drains and other long-standing civic issues. Officials believe aerial mapping will provide accurate and comprehensive data, reducing reliance on manual inspections.
He clarified that both the LMC and LDA are pursuing separate proposals and will restrict their surveys to their respective jurisdictions.
After completing the surveys, both departments will submit independent reports to the state government, outlining the road length covered and funds required for repairs.
An official revealed that soon after the survey, the data will be entered into the system, which will help department officials resolve the issue at the earliest....
