Lko assault video surfaces, cop sent to Lines
lucknow, April 30 -- A police constable has been shunted to the Police Lines after a video surfaced of him assaulting a youth in the Gudamba area, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 27 after a dispute broke out between a cab driver and a customer over fare. According to the police, the driver, identified as Saurabh Pandey, called Dial-112 around 2:54 am, alleging that the customer was arguing and abusing him.
A police response vehicle (PRV) team, including constable Vikas and home guard Ramjeevan, reached the spot.
CCTV footage that later surfaced shows the constable allegedly pushing the youth, slapping him, and then kicking and punching him after he fell to the ground. The youth reportedly sustained a fracture in his hand during the assault.
Deputy commissioner of police (East) Diksha Sharma ordered that constable Vikas to the Police Lines. "An inquiry has been handed over to the ACP, Dial-112, while a report has also been sent to the district commandant for action against the home guard present at the scene," said a senior officer.
A man accused of assaulting his wife, leading to her death, was arrested within 24 hours in Lucknow's Madehganj area, police said on Tuesday. According to the police, the accused, Monu Rawat, allegedly thrashed his wife Radha, 27, on April 19 while under the influence of alcohol. She sustained severe injuries to her head and face and was admitted to Balrampur Hospital, where she died during treatment on Monday....
