LUCKNOW, Oct. 6 -- A railway technician allegedly agreed to impersonate his friend in a UPPSC examination for Rs 10 lakh, but was caught when his iris failed to match during biometric verification at an examination centre in Hazratganj, police said on Monday. ACP Hazratganj Rajneesh Verma said the accused, Jaishankar Tripathi, 37, a technician with the Railways posted in Kanpur Dehat, allegedly appeared for the Health Education Officer (Screening) Examination-2025 at National PG College on Sunday. According to police, Tripathi had agreed to take the examination on behalf of his friend Shashank Kumar Mishra to help him qualify and secure the government job. The ACP said Tripathi allegedly used a forged identity document to enter the examination hall. He reportedly took Mishra's voter ID card and replaced its photograph with his own to pass himself off as the candidate. The impersonation was detected during biometric verification when the static magistrate noticed that the candidate's iris did not match. The candidate was asked to produce his identity documents after the examination but allegedly refused. He was subsequently questioned in the presence of the static and sector magistrates, centre authorities, police personnel and officials appointed by the commission. "During questioning, the man allegedly disclosed his real identity as Jaishankar Tripathi and admitted to appearing for Mishra," police said. Police detained Tripathi and registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the UP Public Examination Act-2024. htc...
