PRAYAGRAJ, May 14 -- Kaushambi police registered a case against a woman and two others for the alleged murder of a man who died under suspicious circumstances last year, officials said. Sunil Kumar, a resident of Shivratan-Ka-Pura under Paschim Sharira police station limits in Kaushambi, died on July 4, 2025. His brother, Sudama Prasad, alleged that Sunil was poisoned by a woman living with him in a live-in relationship, posing as his wife. In his complaint, Sudama Prasad named Sangeeta, a resident of Itaili village, along with two others, Malti Devi and Chhotelal, both from Shivratan Ka Pura, as accused. He claimed the trio conspired to administer poison to Sunil, leading to his death. The complainant said he had approached the local police and senior officers soon after the incident, but no concrete action was taken at the time. Following this, he moved court seeking intervention. Acting on the court's directive, police on Tuesday registered a case under serious charges and initiated an investigation into the matter. A wanted accused, a lawyer, has been arrested and sent to jail for allegedly opening fire at a shopkeeper near the Roadways Bus Stand in the city. Three other accused in the case are still absconding. The incident occurred about two months ago when a group of youths on a motorcycle reportedly shot at a shopkeeper following a dispute over purchasing perfume. Police had earlier identified and arrested two of the accused. The third accused, Vaibhav Tiwari, an advocate from Sidhari Patti under Dilipur police station area, had been on the run since the incident. The Superintendent of Police had announced a Rs.25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Vaibhav was arrested on Tuesday evening by Civil Lines Outpost In-charge Anupam Tiwari near his residence, police said. A married woman died under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday night in the Lalganj Kotwali area of Pratapgarh district, prompting police to register a dowry-related murder case against her husband and mother-in-law. The deceased has been identified as Poonam Yadav, who was married five years ago to Santosh Yadav, a resident of Pure Harikishun village. According to a complaint filed by her brother, Pramod Yadav, a resident of Pure Nakka, Poonam had allegedly faced continuous harassment over dowry since the early days of her marriage....
