Lights, selfies and celebrations asall roads glitter in temple town
Lucknow, Nov. 8 -- Ayodhya turned into a city of lights on Saturday as the temple town celebrated the 10th Deepotsav on the eve of Diwali, with all roads glittering with decorative lights, flowers and rangoli.
From Ram Path to Dharam Path, from Lata Chowk to Naya Ghat, every road, crossing and ghat was illuminated with thematic lighting, LED panels and colourful lights, giving Ayodhya a festive look.
The 13-km Ram Path, the main road leading to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, was decorated with grand entrance gates, pillars depicting scenes from the Ramayana, and thousands of serial lights. Devotees walking on the road stopped every few metres to take photographs and selfies.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir was illuminated in colourful lights, while the entire temple complex glowed in golden and saffron hues. The Hanuman Garhi temple, Kanak Bhawan and other major temples were also decorated with flowers and lights.
Ram Ki Paidi, the heart of Deepotsav, was the main centre of attraction. The 56 ghats of the Saryu were lined with 30 lakh diyas arranged in neat grids, while the ghats themselves were decorated with rangoli and flower patterns.
As evening fell, the reflection of lakhs of diyas on the waters of the Saryu turned Ayodhya into a sea of lights.
The roads leading to Ram Katha Park, where the main function was held, were decorated with tableaux from 13 states depicting different episodes of the Ramayana. Artists in traditional costumes, folk dancers and Ramleela troupes added colour to the celebrations.
Shopkeepers in the old city had also decorated their shops with lights and flowers. Markets in the Chowk area, Tedhi Bazaar and Naya Ghat were crowded with devotees buying diyas, sweets, flowers and souvenirs.
"The whole of Ayodhya is looking like Treta Yug today. Every road is glittering, every ghat is glowing. It feels as if Lord Ram has actually returned," said Adarsh Yadav, a local.
Police had made elaborate security and traffic arrangements to manage the lakhs of devotees who had arrived in Ayodhya since morning. Drone cameras were used for crowd management, while volunteers were deployed at all major crossings to guide devotees.
As the vice-president lit the first diya at Ram Ki Paidi, the entire city erupted in chants of 'Jai Shri Ram', and the sky lit up with a drone show and musical fireworks, marking the grand finale of the 10th Deepotsav.
