Lucknow, Jan. 5 -- Condemning the arrest of CPI (ML) Liberation state secretary Sudhakar Yadav and others in Mirzapur on Saturday, Left parties here on Sunday demanded their immediate and unconditional release, adding that they will organise a statewide protest on January 6. Sudhakar Yadav's name was neither mentioned in the FIR registered at Lalganj police station in Mirzapur district nor was he present on the spot, yet the police arrested him under false implication, the Left leaders said at a joint press conference at the CPI (M) state office on Sunday. They said Jeera Bharti, a member of the CPI (ML) Liberation State Standing Committee and district secretary, was also arrested on Saturday, adding that he was falsely named in FIR. The arrests followed a demonstration near the office of the Mirzapur divisional commissioner on Friday. The protesters demanded land ownership for those who had filed claims under the Forest Rights Act, ban on eviction of tribals living on the land for generations, an end to harassment of tribals by the forest department and a check on the land-grabbing, it was claimed. Despite assurances from the additional commissioner, the standing crop of the tribals was allegedly destroyed at Tendua Khurd village and villagers beaten by forest personnel, it was alleged. Leftist leaders - Hiralal Yadav (CPI-M), Kanti Mishra (CPI), Udaynath Singh (Forward Bloc), Ramesh Singh Sengar and Arun Kumar (CPI-ML) - said the administration should release the party leaders and action should be initiated against the police, administration and forest officers....
