LDA to form panel to assess safety of SA Apartment in Wazirganj
LUCKNOW, Oct. 4 -- The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will constitute a fresh committee headed by its additional secretary to assess whether the unsafe SA Apartment in Barood Khana, Wazirganj, can be strengthened and made fit for occupation, senior LDA officials said on Saturday. The move follows the collapse of a pillar on September 28, which forced around 25 families to evacuate the building.
The LDA has received the preliminary structural audit report and will need some time to examine its findings, an LDA official said, adding that they will also examine the building's unauthorised construction and whether the deviations can be compounded under the applicable rules.
The decision comes after residents formally approached the LDA seeking permission to start repair work on Friday. They told the authority that a private firm had proposed strengthening the structure by installing around 20-25 additional pillars or columns.
However, the structural audit report is likely to take a few more days. The committee will take a final decision after examining the technical findings and the feasibility of the proposed repairs.
The incident has also brought the building's construction history and LDA enforcement under scrutiny. htc...
