LDA Janata Adalat brings long-pending allotment, registration cases to fore
LUCKNOW, July 17 -- The Lucknow Development Authority's (LDA) Janata Adalat (Public hearing) on Monday brought several long-pending grievances to the fore. Complainants alleged that rehabilitation commitments, property registrations and possession of allotted plots had remained unresolved for years. The cases highlighted persistent delays in addressing disputes involving LDA allottees.
The most prominent complaint was lodged by Kaushal Kumar Valmiki, son of former MLC late Achhe Lal Valmiki, who alleged that he has been waiting 28 years to receive a rehabilitation shop after his shops were demolished during a road-widening drive in Ramnagar, Daliganj, in 1998.
According to Valmiki, the then minister late Lalji Tandon had written to the LDA vice-chairman recommending that a shop be allotted to late Achhe Lal Valmiki under the displaced persons' quota. Despite the recommendation, LDA allotted the shops to other beneficiaries. However, the shop was instead allotted to his tenants, and the matter remained unresolved. He further claimed that officials later assured him the earlier allotment would be cancelled and transferred in his favour, following which he deposited the required amount in 2006. Nearly two decades later, however, the shop is yet to be allotted.
According to senior LDA officials, around 36 complaints were received during the Janta Adalat, of which 11 were resolved on the spot. The remaining cases have been assigned specific timelines for inquiry and resolution.
The public hearing also highlighted an alleged case of encroachment on an allotted plot. Meherban Ali said an EWS plot allotted in the name of his wife, Sitara Begum, under the Sarojini Nagar scheme nearly 25 years ago was registered in 2024, but possession is yet to be handed over....
