Laxity during childbirth alleged; pvt hospital sealed
PRAYAGRAJ, July 17 -- A private hospital operating opposite the Kanaili community health centre (CHC) in Kaushambi was on Thursday sealed by the health department team following allegations of negligence and mismanagement during a delivery case. Authorities said the facility was functioning without mandatory registration and lacked several required clearances.
Amir Hasan of Dhata in Fatehpur district said his daughter-in-law Nafees Fatima was admitted to the private hospital for delivery on July 14 night. Hospital staff allegedly informed the family that she was suffering from a blood deficiency and asked them to arrange three units of blood, which reportedly cost around Rs 25,000.
The following day, doctors allegedly advised an emergency surgery, claiming that the lives of both the mother and the unborn child were at risk. The family claimed they deposited Rs 20,000 for the operation and an additional Rs 21,000 towards tests and other expenses.
Although a baby girl was delivered, the family alleged that the mother's condition worsened soon afterward and she was referred to Prayagraj for advanced treatment. At a private hospital there, doctors are said to have informed them that the chances of her survival are very low.
Following a complaint from the family and on the directions of Kaushambi CMO Dr Sanjay Kumar, Dr Muktesh Dwivedi, superintendent of Kanaili CHC, conducted an inspection of the private hospital in Kaushambi....
