LUCKNOW, Oct. 31 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has granted two weeks to the Uttar Pradesh government to submit its reply in the case concerning the proposed night safari project and relocation of the Lucknow Zoo to Kukrail. The NGT's principal bench in New Delhi, headed by chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member A Senthil Vel, passed the order on Wednesday. "The state government has so far avoided filing a reply in the NGT, citing that a similar matter is pending before the Supreme Court," said Lucknow-based social activist Alok Singh, the petitioner, who attended the hearing virtually. Singh has raised objections to the proposed project in the Kukrail reserve forest, alleging that around 1,500 trees may be felled. He had also approached the Supreme Court on April 11, 2025, claiming that the night safari project could harm the forest's natural ecosystem and cause irreversible environmental damage....
