Kheri: 3 held after 19-yr-old woman alleges gang-rape
LAKHIMPUR KHERI, Aug. 17 -- A man, along with two friends, allegedly gang-raped a 19-year-old woman from his neighbourhood after calling her to his house in the absence of his parents on Saturday afternoon, police said. All three accused were taken into custody for questioning and subsequently arrested on Sunday after an FIR was registered, officials said, adding that the main accused allegedly took advantage of his friendly relations with the woman.
According to reports, the teenage woman, who hails from a town in neighbouring Sitapur district, was staying with her maternal grandparents in a locality under the Sadar Kotwali police station area. The incident came to light after the woman returned home and shared her ordeal with her grandparents. She also told them that the accused fled after her condition began deteriorating. She was rushed to the district hospital, and the Kotwali police were informed.
Kheri senior superintendent of police (SSP) Khyati Garg told Hindustan Times that a team from the women's police station immediately reached the hospital and spoke to the victim.
"An FIR under Section 70(1) of the BNS was registered and police teams arrested the three accused on Sunday. They have been identified as Siddharth Srivastava, 22, Madhumesh Mishra, 23, and Vishu Kanaujiya, 19," she said.
Describing the woman's condition as stable and saying she was out of danger, the SSP said the victim's statements were being recorded and further investigation was underway.
