LUCKNOW, Aug. 17 -- The King George's Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre is set to add 16 junior resident doctors to its casualty department to reduce treatment delays for critically ill patients. According to officials, interviews for the posts have been completed and the joining process has begun, with all 16 doctors expected to report within a week. The over-400-bed Trauma Centre receives more than 250 patients daily, while its casualty department has 44 beds, most of which remain occupied. With the addition of the new residents, the number of junior residents in the casualty department will rise to around 42. Dr Premraj Singh, chief medical superintendent, KGMU Trauma Centre, said critically injured patients, including road accident victims arriving from across Uttar Pradesh, require immediate assessment, monitoring and treatment. The shortage of doctors was affecting these processes and contributing to delays. He said quicker examination and treatment would also help transfer patients to the respective department wards sooner, freeing up beds in casualty and reducing the need to treat patients on stretchers. htc...
