KGMU to issue final notice for removal of shrines from campus
LUCKNOW, Feb. 8 -- King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, administration is preparing to issue a second and final notice for the removal of shrines located on its campus after the deadline set in the first notice expired without compliance, officials said.
According to the university, there are six shrines situated near the main gate of Queen Mary's Hospital, the department of respiratory medicine, the department of microbiology, the trauma centre complex, the orthopaedic super speciality building and the TG hostel complex.
KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh said that efforts are underway to clear the remaining six sites, and a second notice is likely to be issued on Monday.
Officials said notices were pasted on January 22 on the walls of these shrines, stating that encroachment on university land would not be allowed and asking those responsible to remove the structures within the stipulated time. However, no action was taken even after the deadline passed.
The administration has now decided to issue a second notice as a final warning. If the directions are not followed, legal and administrative action will be initiated, officials said. The shrines are stated to be obstructing movement and have encroachment around them.
KGMU spokesperson said the university has been taking continuous steps to clear illegal encroachments on the campus. He said three such sites have already been cleared, including 20,000 square feet behind the ophthalmology department, 70,000 square feet on Jagat Narayan Road and 60,000 square feet behind the Shatabdi-2 building....
