PRAYAGRAJ, April 19 -- A notorious criminal from Kaushambi district escaped from Delhi Police custody in the early hours of Thursday, prompting a massive search operation and raising serious questions about security lapses. The accused, Vijay Dubey, was arrested in connection with the theft of Rs 7 lakh in cash and two silver idols from an office in East of Kailash, New Delhi. According to police, the theft was reported on March 30 by Rajwinder Wali at the Greater Kailash police station. During investigation, Delhi Police arrested Vijay Dubey, a resident of Jugrajpur village under Sarai Akil police station in Kaushambi. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the theft with his accomplice, Danish Shukla, who is also from the same village. After obtaining court remand, a Delhi Police team brought Dubey to Kaushambi on April 15 to arrest the accomplice and recover the stolen items. Raids were carried out with the help of Sarai Akil police. On the night of April 16, the police team stayed in a banquet hall in Sarai Akil, where two rooms were booked and the accused was kept in custody. In the early morning hours, Dubey allegedly slipped his hands out of the handcuffs and fled. The escape left the police personnel stunned. The area was immediately cordoned off but the accused could not be traced. Neither the accomplice was arrested nor was the stolen items recovered. The accused's family members have also reportedly fled their home. A case has been registered at Sarai Akil police station on the basis of a written complaint by Delhi Police sub-inspector Ravindra Singh. The FIR stated that the accused escaped after freeing himself from the handcuffs, raising questions about how the cuffs were secured and the circumstances under which he managed to flee despite claims that exits were sealed. DSP (Chail) Abhishek Singh confirmed the incident, stating that a case has been registered and search operations are ongoing. A married woman was allegedly held hostage, repeatedly beaten and starved by her in-laws over dowry demands in Medua village under Sarai Akil police station in Kaushambi district. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Manjhanpur. Acting on a complaint filed by her father, police have registered a case against four members of her in-laws' family, including her husband. According to the complaint, Mithai Lal of Balipur Tata village in Charwa area of Kaushambi had married his daughter Nirmala Devi to Dilip Kumar of Medua village on December 10, 2020. Soon after the marriage, the in-laws allegedly began demanding a gold chain and Rs 5 lakh in cash. Whenever the woman returned to her parental home, she narrated her ordeal, but due to financial limitations, her family sent her back. It is alleged that each time she returned without the demanded dowry, she was brutally assaulted, locked in a room and denied food for days. The situation reportedly worsened on April 15, when she was severely beaten again, forcing her family to rush her to a hospital for treatment. Police have booked the husband Dilip Kumar, father-in-law Maikulal, brother-in-law Sandeep Kumar and the mother-in-law under serious sections. DSP (Chail) Abhishek Singh said the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken based on findings. A married woman allegedly consumed a poisonous substance along with her 10-year-old son late Friday night following a family dispute in Sapha Chhat village under Kotwali police station limits in Pratapgarh. The woman died during treatment, while the child is in critical condition at a hospital in Prayagraj. The deceased has been identified as Shamla (31), resident of Sapha Chhat village. According to information, she consumed poison around midnight and also gave it to her son. SHO Kotwali police station Anand Pal Singh said the matter would be investigated once a written complaint is received from the maternal family and appropriate legal action would be taken....
