Prayagraj, Sept. 21 -- A seven-year-old girl, Gayatri, was killed and her father, Dharmendra Rahi, was injured after a speeding motorcycle struck them while they were crossing the Ramvan Gaman Path near the PWD office on Saturday night. Two youths riding the motorcycle were also injured in the collision. Dharmendra Rahi, a native of Shravasti district, works for an agency involved in the construction of the Ramvan Gaman Path and resides near the PWD office in Manjhanpur, Kaushambi. The accident occurred around 8 p.m. as the father and daughter were crossing the road. A motorcycle traveling from the direction of Prayagraj toward Mahevaghat reportedly struck them at high speed. The motorcycle then overturned and skidded, injuring both riders. Bystanders rushed all four victims to the district hospital. Gayatri was subsequently transferred to a medical college, where she was declared dead. Dharmendra and the two motorcycle riders are currently undergoing treatment. Station house officer Vineet Singh stated that a case has been registered against the riders, Neeraj Aharwar and Kishan Mali, both residents of Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. The girl's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. A retired Allahabad University professor was allegedly duped of Rs.1 lakh after cyber fraudsters transferred money from his bank account through UPI without his knowledge. Dr Sunil Kumar Sinha, a resident of Tagore Town, said in his complaint that he has an account with Punjab National Bank's Civil Lines branch. On the evening of September 2, he received a message on his mobile phone informing him that Rs.1 lakh had been debited from his account. When Sinha visited the bank the next day, he was informed that the transaction had been carried out through UPI. He said he had neither authorised the transaction nor shared any OTP or password. Sinha then called the cybercrime helpline number 1930 and lodged a complaint. Georgetown SHO Rukumpal Singh said an FIR had been registered on the professor's complaint and an investigation was underway with the assistance of the cyber cell. Cyber fraudsters allegedly duped a youth of Rs.3.25 lakh after posing as bank officials and promising to increase the fund value of his life insurance policy. Charwa police in Kaushambi have registered a case and launched an investigation. Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Rampur under Charwa police station, had a State Bank of India life insurance policy but had not paid the premium for 2025-26. He had reportedly been receiving reminders from the bank to deposit the premium. Meanwhile, fraudsters started calling Mukesh while posing as bank employees. After gaining his confidence, they allegedly persuaded him to transfer money on the pretext of increasing the fund value of his insurance policy. Between August 26 and September 2, Mukesh transferred a total of Rs.3.25 lakh in multiple instalments to bank accounts provided by the callers. He became suspicious when they demanded additional money. Mukesh subsequently lodged a complaint through the cybercrime helpline and online portal. On Saturday, he approached Charwa police with a formal complaint, following which a case was registered. DSP (Chail) Shivank Singh said an investigating officer had been directed to conduct an impartial probe and take action against those found responsible.
