Meerut, Aug. 11 -- A kanwariya returning to Delhi with Ganga water from Haridwar was killed in a road accident on the Delhi-Yamunotri Highway in Saharanpur on Monday morning, after a container allegedly rammed into him from behind amid heavy rain. The deceased was identified as Himanshu alias Honey Dagar (22), a resident of Rajiv Nagar in Delhi. He was returning from Haridwar as part of a Dak Kanwar procession along with his companions when the accident occurred near the Kanchauli culvert in the Rampur Maniharan area. According to police, Himanshu and his fellow Kanwariyas were travelling towards Delhi after collecting Ganga water from Haridwar. When they reached a point beyond the Kanchauli culvert on the Delhi-Yamunotri Highway on Monday morning, a container approaching from behind hit Himanshu. The collision was so severe that he was thrown onto the road and suffered critical injuries. The accident caused panic among people in the vicinity, who immediately informed the police. Police personnel rushed the injured Kanwariya to the district hospital in Saharanpur, where doctors began treatment. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he could not be saved and passed away during treatment. Police said the rain had made the highway slippery and reduced visibility. They have taken the container, bearing registration number DL 01 MB-1804, into custody and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident....
