GORAKHPUR, Aug. 17 -- A Kanwariya was killed and another critically injured in Pipraich on Sunday after their DJ trolley struck an 11,000-volt high-tension power line. The incident occurred near Turra Nal, under the jurisdiction of the Pipraich police station, as the procession moved along the Pipraich road. According to officials, the trolley's elevated structure struck a high-tension wire, sending a lethal current through the vehicle. In the ensuing panic, four other devotees aboard the trolley jumped to safety to avoid electrocution. Local police and administration officials arrived shortly after the incident to secure the scene. SP (North) Gyanendra Pandey confirmed that the deceased, 24-year-old Karan Chauhan, was declared dead upon arrival at a local community health centre. The injured devotee, Mohan Bharti, sustained severe burn injuries and has been referred to BRD Medical College for specialised treatment. Police have launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, specifically the safety protocols in place for the transport of DJ structures near high-voltage lines. In a separate event, a Kanwariya in the Sahabganj locality, under the Tiwari Pur police station, suffered an electric shock after coming into contact with a power pole.
