LUCKNOW, Aug. 4 -- The spirit of sacrifice and patriotism of India's freedom fighters was vividly brought to life on Monday at Bharatendu Natya Academy's 'Padma Shri Raj Bisaria Thrust Theatre' with the staging of the play 'Kakori Train Action', directed by Sumit Srivastava and staged by BNA repertory. The play began with patriotic songs like 'Haste-haste choom lenge faansi ke phandon ko hum, desh yeh azaad ho khwahish rahegi marte dam'. The lyrics immediately connected with the audience and set the tone for an evening of pride and emotion. What made the play unique was its contemporary feel. The narrative follows a group of today's youth, absorbed in social media, reels and selfies, who find themselves stranded when their bus breaks down. Ironically, the spot is the very place where the historic Kakori train robbery was carried out in 1925. As they step into the shoes of revolutionaries Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqullah Khan and others, a deep sense of nationalism awakens in them. The musical score by Anjana Puri added depth to the performance. The chorus 'Azaadi-Azaadi, yeh hawa humari azaadi' filled the auditorium with energy, while the folk song 'Railiya Bairan' highlighted how artistes and dancers in that era also played a role in spreading awareness against British rule. Kabir's profound couplet 'Sadho, yeh murdon ka gaon' echoed on stage with haunting intensity. The cast including Anil Chaudhary, Tushar Nirala, Dheeraj Kumar, Pradeep Shivhare and Shruti Kirti Singh delivered gripping performances.
