K'taka Congress leader resigns from cabinet over portfolio allocation
Bengaluru, June 6 -- Senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy resigned on Friday over portfolio allocation adding that he will continue to remain a party member and legislator.
The development came two days after Reddy had joined the new expanded cabinet led by chief minister DK Shivakumar.
Reddy expressed his disappointment over the allocation of the ministry, Bengaluru Development Department, after CM Shivakumar had earlier promised him to provide the same.
The Bengaluru Development Department ministry was given to Krishna Byre Gowda. Reddy said the decision ran contrary to the assurance he had received.
"I have been humiliated time and again, cannot take it anymore," Reddy said.
Reddy also referred to his long association with the party, saying he had spent 53 years in the Congress and intended to continue in its ranks. "I am not angry, only disappointed," he said. Responding to the resignation, CM Shivakumar sought to play down concerns and indicated that the issue will be resolved. "Nothing to worry about. He is a great friend. We are the closest friends among the Cabinet. We will sort out the problem," Shivakumar said.
Reddy remains one of the Congress party's most influential leaders in Bengaluru and has been a prominent figure in the city's political affairs.
His departure from the ministry, while remaining in the party, comes as parties prepare for the anticipated Greater Bengaluru Authority elections, a contest expected to assume considerable importance in the state capital....
