June 18 deadline likely to lapse as conditions do not favour advance
Lucknow, June 14 -- The monsoon may miss the June 18 deadline of entering Uttar Pradesh. As of now conditions are not favourable for the advancement of the monsoon into the state, the weatherman said on Saturday.
"As of now it will take at least a good one week to arrive in UP," said Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow.
Normally, the monsoon enters UP through eastern districts of Ballia, Gorakhpur after passing through Bihar and Jharkhand. But for the last two years, the southwest monsoon entered UP from the southern parts of the state. In 2025, monsoon had entered into Jhansi, Lalitpur and Sonbhadra districts on June 18. After 2 to 3 days, the south monsoon made another entry from east UP.
Similarly in 2024 too, the south west monsoon entered through Lalitpur district in UP bordering Madhya Pradesh on June 25 as Arabian sea branch of monsoon was more active which is quite unusual.
The present spells of thunderstorms and rain witnessed in various parts of the state over the past three days are expected to subside significantly starting from June 14 (Sunday). The temperatures are likely to see a notable rise of 5 to 7degC over the coming week, the weatherman said.
The Met office forecast for Lucknow is a partly cloudy sky becoming mainly clear with the maximum and minimum temperature hovering around 37 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The state forecast is rain/thundershowers very likely at isolated places over the West UP and mostly dry over the East UP.
Weather turned pleasant in Lucknow and adjoining areas as rain lashed the city, bringing relief from severe heat on Saturday morning. However as the day progressed, the sky turned clear. Lucknow recorded 5 mm rainfall between 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
