Jeweller's death exposes sex racket, cop suspended
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 4 -- The in-charge of the ADA Colony police outpost in Naini has been suspended for alleged negligence after an investigation into jeweller Bhupendra Soni's death uncovered a suspected sex racket operating from two flats at Manas Vihar Apartment, police said.
DCP Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav said outpost in-charge Lekhpal Singh was suspended after preliminary findings indicated a lack of vigilance and failure to act against activities allegedly continuing in the area for some time. A departmental inquiry has also been ordered.
The inquiry will examine the circumstances behind the presence of Singh and Kanshiram outpost in-charge Ramanand Vishwakarma at the apartment around the time of the incident and whether local police were aware of the alleged racket.
Police said Soni, 32, visited a flat on September 25, where a dispute allegedly arose over payment after an amount was settled for sexual relations with two women. During the ensuing scuffle, Soni allegedly fell from the sixth-floor balcony. He later died in hospital.
His father, Nebulal Soni of Ghurpur, lodged a complaint alleging that his son had been called to the apartment and pushed from a height. Police initially registered a murder case against unidentified persons.
During the investigation, police allegedly found that a sex racket was operating from flats 604 and 605. Five accused, Sarita alias Jia Devi, Anup Soni, Vishal Verma, Kiran alias Neha and Sapna Verma, were arrested.
Police said further action against personnel would depend on the departmental inquiry findings....
