Police have registered a case against the owner of an SUV for allegedly providing false information regarding an accident to secure an insurance payout. According to Pravhan Pandey, assistant manager of the Fraud Investigation Unit at Universal Sompo General Insurance Company Limited (Lucknow), the vehicle's owner, Ashraf, a resident of Bara Haveli Aima in the Kadhadham area, had insured his vehicle with the company in February 2025. Ashraf filed a claim on March 23, 2025, alleging that his driver, Md Afsar, was driving toward Khushal Ka Purva Tiraha in Saini when a herd of nilgai crossed the road. He claimed the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to hit a culvert and fall into a canal. A report regarding the incident was filed at Saini police station on March 24, 2025. However, an internal investigation by the insurance company uncovered discrepancies, including rust on the "damaged" portions of the vehicle, casting doubt on the timing, location and circumstances of the accident. Following a formal complaint from the insurer, the police have launched an investigation into the alleged fraud. HTC...
