Jaunpur man arrested in connection with nursing college student's death
VARANASI, June 13 -- The man, who was detained on Thursday in connection with the death of a 20-year-old woman who was found in a blood-soaked condition on the stairs of a paying guest house near the nursing college in the Sarnath area on Wednesday, was arrested on Friday and sent to judicial custody, police said.
Station house officer Sarnath Pankaj Kumar Tripathi said that the accused has been identified as Mohd Sameer, a resident of Jaunpur. He was arrested from Sarnath Police Station premises where he was questioned after being detained in connection with the case under sections 64(1) (rape), 105 (culpable homicide), 324(4) (mischief) of the BNS that was registered at Sarnath Police Station, based on the complaint by the kin of the woman.
The SHO said that investigation revealed that the deceased and the youth were nursing students in the same college. Police examined the CCTV footage from the college premises and call detail records (CDR) of the student's mobile phone. Probe revealed that Sameer who is a third-year nursing student at the same college, often spoke to the woman on her mobile phone.
During interrogation, it came to light that they both knew each other for the last two years, said a police officer.
On June 10, a 20-year-old woman nursing student was found unconscious and soaked in blood on the stairs of a paying guest house near the nursing college in the Sarnath area.
Upon receiving the information, she was immediately admitted to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Based on a written complaint from the deceased's family, a case was registered at Sarnath Police Station. Station house officer Pankaj Kumar Tripathi initiated the investigation.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday police took the body into possession and sent it for the post mortem examination. Police said that a panel of two doctors conducted the post-mortem examination, and the entire procedure was videographed. The body was handed over to the family for performing the last rites.
The female student resided with her parents in a colony within the Sarnath police station limits, and had left home on Wednesday morning. According to her family, she had informed them that she was going to attend a camp....
