LUCKNOW, Oct. 9 -- The sudden resignation of women's selection panel head, Aparajita Bansal, will be an important issue of discussion at the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association's annual general meeting, scheduled to be held on October 30 in Kanpur. If sources are to be believed, Bansal's resignation, in the last week of September, days ahead of the selection of women's teams for the ongoing domestic cricket, was a big blow to the entire process as she was reportedly "not happy with unusual interferences" by the people responsible for women's cricket in Uttar Pradesh. Though Bansal confirmed her resignation, she denied mentioning any specific reasons for this. "Yes, I resigned from the post of women's selection panel chief last month, and I wouldn't like to discuss the details," she said. UPCA's women's cricket head, Deepak Sharma too confirmed the resignation. "She has resigned, but I haven't gone through the reasons behind this. Will see this soon," he added. However, UPCA secretary Arvind Srivastava said that the issue will certainly be discussed at the AGM later this month. "I have also been told about her resignation and I will see this at the AGM, if required," he said on Wednesday. It is learnt that under the chairmanship of Bansal, Uttar Pradesh girls did well last season, and this allegedly 'irked" the people, including a former India cricketer, and then the expected games began against her. "It's a system in UPCA and here people know how to remove the correct people," said a UPCA insider on condition of anonymity. As far as the AGM is concerned, it will have a new secretary as the present secretary, Arvind Srivastava, has already completed a six-year tenure in office after serving three years as treasurer in the past. Now, Srivastava, who hails from Unnao, will undergo a cooling-off period over the next three years, as per the recommendations of the Supreme Court-appointed Justice RM Lodha Committee. The panel had recommended reforms in the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and by extension, the UPCA too. After the cooling-off period, Srivastava can make a comeback for his last tenure of three years. Besides getting a new secretary, elections for the other key four posts, including president, vice-president, joint secretary and treasurer, will be held, but all four existing office-bearers are set to be re-elected unopposed as they still have time as per their tenures. President Nidhipati Singhania has almost three years time to complete his tenure, and almost same is the case of vice-president and former Test off-spinner Gopal Sharma, joint secretary Riyasat Ali and treasurer Prem Manohar Gupta. "Since this is an election year, everybody has to seek an extension as we all know UPCA has the tradition of selection and not the election," a UPCA insider said on conditions of anonymity on Wednesday. He also said that current treasurer Prem Manohar Gupta has all chances to be elected as the new secretary of state cricket body as he has a proven track record of a 'loyalist worker'. But everyone knows well that it will be BCCI's vice-president and UPCA's life member Rajeev Shukla, who will take a final call on this issue. The other man in the race could be UPCA's joint secretary, Riyasat Ali, who still has two and half years to hold any post in the UPCA. "Riyasat has done well as joint secretary and under his leadership, UP did well in the junior cricket last season," said an UPCA official....
