Inter-state cyber fraud gang busted
Prayagraj, April 19 -- Police at Sarai Akil police station busted an inter-state cyber fraud gang that allegedly targeted victims in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Prajapat said the case surfaced during a review of complaints on the JMIS portal. Investigation revealed that Rs.10,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from an HDFC Bank ATM in Sarai Akil town.
After obtaining CCTV footage from the bank, police identified and arrested Mohd Furqan Ansari, a resident of Fakirabad. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to carrying out the fraud along with his brother. Police said the accused obtained SIM cards using forged documents and lured people through fake investment schemes on Telegram.
Victims were persuaded to transfer money into bank accounts of unsuspecting persons, while the gang kept control of the passbooks and ATM cards. Police recovered two bank passbooks, one PAN card, one Aadhaar card, eight debit cards, two mobile phones, Rs.4,470 in cash and two motorcycles. A case has been registered.
A territorial dispute between transgender groups from Prayagraj and Pratapgarh led to a clash and commotion at Raniganj police station on Saturday. Police said a group from Prayagraj, led by Lakshmi, had gone to the Fatanpur and Raniganj areas to collect customary dues.
Local transgender persons opposed their presence, claiming outsiders were operating in their designated area. Soon after, Paro, a local transgender leader from the Gaura development block, reached the spot with associates and protested. The argument later turned into a physical altercation.
Members of the Prayagraj group later reached Raniganj police station in an unregistered Scorpio vehicle and alleged they had been forcibly detained. Their protest drew a large crowd near the police station and the adjoining highway. SHO Vijaykant Satyarthi pacified both sides and brought the situation under control. Police said the matter is under investigation.
Seven seized vehicles were destroyed after a fire broke out outside the newly constructed Phaphamau police station in the Bela Kachhar area on Saturday afternoon. Officials said around a dozen two-wheelers and four-wheelers seized in different legal cases were parked outside the station when the fire started. The flames spread quickly and engulfed several vehicles.
The blaze continued for nearly an hour before fire brigade personnel brought it under control. Police said seven vehicles were completely gutted in the fire. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.
A joint team of Sonbhadra police and the anti-human trafficking unit arrested an accused from Pawar village on Saturday for alleged involvement in human trafficking.
The accused was identified as Shiv Singh alias Ramkal (approximately 45), a resident of Nihalganj, District Dholpur, Rajasthan, according to circle officer Randheer Mishra.
The accused was wanted in connection with a case registered at Robertsganj police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 137(2), 143(4), 61(2), and 351(3) read with 64(2)M. He was also booked under Sections 16/17, 5L/6, and 5J(2)/6 of the POCSO Act. The arrest followed intelligence received from an informer. A police team, comprising In-charge Inspector Madhav Singh of the Anti-Human Trafficking Police Station and Sub-Inspector Ranjit Singh of Robertsganj Police Station, cordoned off the area in Pawar village to apprehend the accused.
