Lucknow, Sept. 29 -- The state government has succeeded in increasing insurance awareness among urban and well-off sections, but the real challenge is to take it to rural areas and economically weaker families where one illness or accident can wipe out savings of a lifetime, said Finance minister Suresh Khanna at the UP International Trade Show (UPITS) on Monday. Speaking at a session 'Financial Inclusion: Insurance is Essential' at UP International Trade Show at India Expo Mart in Noida, Khanna said insurance is key tool to reduce financial losses for the poor. He said awareness should be routed through rural public representatives and grassroots community connectors, so message reaches villages faster. "During illness, accident or any adverse situation, economically weaker families face greatest crisis. Insurance can become important means of providing financial security," he said.
